About Pineapster?

What is Pineapster?

Pineapster is a website set up by Cuttlefish, Charnwood Arts and The
Left Legged Pineapple to give musicians the opportunity to help
themselves. It provides a virtual meeting place for musicians to meet
and organise gigs, and provides a free self managed webpage with mp3
and video hosting for each artist. Pineapster also provides a space
for venues to hawk their wares and it's own internet radio station
featuring Pineapster bands.

Why Pineapster?

The name Pineapster is a hybrid of the words Pineapple and Napster.
The Left Legged Pineapple is an independant record shop in
Loughborough and Napster was the first widespread peer to peer file
sharing program specialising in mp3s.

Who runs Pineapster?

The short answer is the website administration with support from the
forum moderators. The slightly longer answer is that the forum users
took the opportunity provided by those kind folks mentioned above and
ran with it.

In the beginning there were a few people who knew about Pineapster,
these people told other people, and before you knew it there were
enough people to warrant organising the first Pineapster Showcase. A
showcase that was organised by the bands for the bands.Pineapster
alldayers and irregular showcases followed. The forum grew. It was
decided that the best way to make use of Pineapster was to try and use
it as an umbrella to include all those who posted there, a sign of
quality if you like. It was decided that the showcases should become
regular events and that given the modest reputation of Pineapster at
the time, The Attik was approached to be our host. A years worth of
gigs later, the Showcase became Communion and is still organised by
the bands for the bands. The forum continues to grow thanks to the
efforts of those who started the whole thing off those years ago, many
of whom are still here.
